Eat, Drink, Spring & Strawberry Mojitos

I recently heard about Eat, Drink, Spring, which is the Spring Edition of the Ottawa Wine and Food Festival. I love good food, cocktails and wine, so I was immediately intrigued. The timing really couldn’t be more perfect, because after looking over the schedule of events there are a couple that I am specifically very interested in as Byron and I are currently working on setting up our balcony. The Patio Decor & Gardening Workshop is going to provide some tips and tricks on summer entertaining and how to create the perfect patio space. Now this is perfect because we don’t have a very big balcony, so I am hoping to get some ideas on how we can maximize our balcony space. The Pati-Oh Canada event is going to demonstrate how to prepare for summer parties with a demo on how to grow herbs and then use them to make drinks. This event is one I am super excited for because there is nothing better than having your own crop of fresh herbs to cook with and make drinks from. The only …

Woodwork

One of my favourite traditions is the annual birthdays’ dinner my friend Lana and I have. Sometime after both of our birthdays, we make a point to get together and go out for dinner somewhere fun, rather than exchange presents.

Tavern 1903

Tavern 1903 9802 Jasper Avenue Edmonton, AB Forgive me foodies for I have sinned. I just visited Tavern 1903 a few weeks ago. What type of bad food blogger am I? Well the problem with Edmonton’s restaurant boom is that there are just so many intriguing restaurants and not nearly enough time to get to all of them (not mention enough money in the wallet or holes in the belt)! When I placed the dinner reservation I was able to reserve the only table for large groups in the restaurant, a table for 10. Which was great, however the table was placed slightly awkwardly right by the door. As it was a beautiful Spring evening, it wasn’t too big of a deal, but I could see that table being pretty chilly during Edmonton’s long, cold winters! As soon as I walked into the restaurant, I was immediately drawn to all of the beautiful decor. I loved the gorgeous wine bottle chandeliers that provided a wonderful glow for dinner. I also thought it was quite interesting how …

12 Posts of Christmas – Nick’s Eggnog Martini

My brother, Nick, is a really good cook. He’s pretty comfortable in the kitchen and doesn’t seem to have any qualms about trying new recipes. When I asked if he would share a recipe for my 12 Posts of Christmas, we both thought maybe a drink recipe would be fun. He sent over this Eggnog Martini recipe, by the one and only Martha Stewart, and it looked pretty tasty, so we made a batch while we were over for family dinner with my parents last Sunday. The recipe is essentially home-made eggnog and a whole lot of brandy. Yum! I’d always been a little nervous to attempt to make eggnog from scratch, as I thought it would be a little too rich for my taste, but this eggnog was wonderful. It was deliciously creamy and just slightly thickened. I think what made the difference is that this recipe uses just whole milk, where as some recipes also include cream, which I think would make the eggnog a little too rich for me. Nick’s Eggnog Martini …

12 Posts of Christmas – Stone Spice Sour Champagne Cocktail

Can you believe it is December already?! Where on earth did 2013 go? Yesterday was December 1st and that means we’ve passed the unofficial start of one of my favourite times of the year: Christmas! If you know me at all, then you probably know that I LOVE Christmas. This Christmas is going to be especially fun because I get to decorate my new home with my own Christmas stuff! I already spent some time shopping for Christmas decor at Pottery Barn last weekend and there are some beautiful looking items at Restoration Hardware, which is dangerously close to me… uh oh.. cha-ching! December also means it is time for the 2nd Annual 12 Posts of Christmas! I had a lot of fun writing these posts last year, so I thought why not do it again? Also, 12 posts in a month is a pretty good goal to get me back into writing posts more frequently, after a very busy fall. On Sunday night I had my family over for dinner and since it was …

Pumpkin Spice Smoothie

Well hey there everybody, I hope you had a great weekend! I know I did. I started my weekend off with an awesome workout at Barre Body Studio. I started taking barre class about a month ago and I was hooked after the first class. Barre fitness is rooted in Ballet and focuses on building flexibility, strength and long, lean muscles. I did ballet for more than 15 years, so it’s been great to get back to the barre. You really don’t need any dance training though, I have a couple of non-dancer friends who have also fallen in love with barre class. If you are looking for a new, fun fitness class, I really recommend giving it a try! For the last couple of weeks I have been doing an early morning class and nothing tastes better after a good workout than a delicious smoothie. Especially one that is jam-packed with flavour and all sorts of things that are good for you! Nick and Lauren recently pointed me in the direction of a Pumpkin …
