There aren’t many noodle shops here in Ottawa, so I when I heard that Sansotei Ramen had opened I was pretty excited to check it out. Sansotei started in Toronto and has expanded to a couple more locations in the GTA and now Ottawa.

Yesterday was rainy and grey, so Byron and I decided that a hot bowl of ramen would make for a perfect lunch. We headed downtown and arrived at the restaurant around 12:30. Santosei isn’t very big and it’s fairly popular  already, so I was pleasantly surprised that we were seated immediately when we arrived. The restaurant was full the entire time we were there and moments after we arrived a line had formed.

We decided to start our meal with the Spicy Slow Cooked Wings. The wings were fall off the bone tender and incredibly flavourful with a small kick to them.

Byron ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen which is topped with 2 pieces of pork belly, a soft boiled egg, black fungus and green onion. I decided on the Tonkotsu Black Ramen which is just like the Tonkotsu, but topped off with a roasted garlic oil.

The ramen was delicious. The broth was rich and had a wonderful depth of flavour, the egg was cooked perfectly and the pork belly was just right. You have the choice of thick or thin noodles and Byron and I both opted for the thin noodles. Because of the small kitchen the noodles are not made on site, however they are excellent ramen noodles with just the right bite to them.

I can easily say that this is best ramen I have had in Ottawa to date and I am looking forward to visiting Sansotei to try out some of the other sides and ramens on the menu.

Happy Sunday!
