I had lunch today at the Bul Go Gi House in Bonnie Doon with some friends after our pic-nic plans got rained out. We initially tossed around the idea of going for sushi, but I suggested going to the Bul Go Gi House for some delicious Korean food. See their website here. I have grown up going to the Bul Go Gi House, I am told my parents even used to go there in their university days. A place that has been around that long has got to be good, right? (Just kidding, Mom and Dad!)
We all opted for the lunch specials, with 5 of the 6 of us (including myself) choosing the Gal-bee special which includes Korean short ribs, which are my favourite thing on the menu.
Lunch started out with a couple complimentary bowls of bean sprout salad and spicy kimchi, which were both great as usual.
For just a little more that $12.00 (the prices on the menu on-line seem to be a bit outdated) the combo was a pretty good deal. My Gal-bee special included a nice big portion of rice, a delicious piece of Korean BBQ chicken, one Korean short rib, 2 wontons and lots of stir fried veggies. Personally I found there were a few too many vegetables and would have liked a second short rib, but that might just be because I am a little bit of a carnivore.
Overall, it was a delicious, economical lunch and I came home with leftovers, which is always a bonus in my book. I had a great time visiting with my friends and it was a great way to spend part of a rainy day. The Bul Go Gi House has been around for a long time and I really hope it’s around for many more years to come.
